Generating traffic is an art. But generating the right kind of traffic is the science that will unlock the gates of profit. You have to remember that there are four kinds of traffic that you can generate for your website. These are:
1. The traffic that casually came to your website. These are the people who spend their afternoons looking for information that will feed their curiosity. They are not looking for anything in particular. They just go to where their searches would lead them.
2. The traffic that is composed of visitors who want something, but don’t know the kind of solution they need. These prospects require the most work. You see, it’s enough that you’d tell them what your product is all about. You should also tell them why they need your product. This can be done by clearly establishing a need and discussing the worst possible repercussions if such a need isn’t met. Then and only then will you be able to convert them from semi-interested passersby into very involved participants.
3. The traffic that is composed of visitors who want something, but are studying all possible options. These people need a little more convincing, of course, but the chances of winning some sales from them would be high.
4. The traffic that is composed of visitors who want something, and are ready to spend for the same and fast. These are the people you will want to target. They are ready to buy, and they are ready to buy as soon as possible. All you have to do is to lead them to your sales page, and the product of your copy-writing magic will take care of the rest. These are the people who have a pressing need (or a great desire that has become a need) and are willing to act expeditiously to satisfy that need.
Now that you know which kind of traffic will be most profitable for your online business, the next pivotal question that needs to be answered is how you can attract that type of visitors.
We will not discuss the intricacies of web traffic generation here. By now, you should know the basics of generating a substantial volume of traffic for your website. What we will be focusing on are some tricks and tactics that will help you find the right kind of traffic that would be most beneficial for your online business, i.e. the traffic composed of visitors who are ready to buy.
* Target keywords that are composed of 3 words or more. Such will mean that the people searching for the information they correspond to are striving to find the best offer for what they need. These are the people who will immediately draw their credit card once they find what they are looking for.
* Use the tip above on your Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising campaign, so that your ads will appear on the screen of the people who have the highest likelihood of making a purchase.
* Strive to have your links displayed on high profile websites. These can be quality review centers, online shopping portals, or even listings for similar products. The point of this strategy is to steal the visitors who may frequent those websites. And since these visitors go to those pages ready and willing to buy, you’d have an easier time convincing them to purchase what you have to offer.
* Advertise in well-performing newsletters. The size of the e-zine is not as important as the response rate. Some internet marketers maintain a mailing list composed of people who are always ready to buy, especially when a product is endorsed by the publisher they have come to trust.
* Steal your competitor’s traffic. Though this may sound rude, it is by no means what we can consider as black hat. All you have to do is to know where your competition’s traffic is coming from. This can be done easily. Simply go to www.google.com and type “link:www.yourcomptitor.com” without the apostrophes. A list of websites will appear. If these websites accepted your competitor as a link partner, they’d most certainly accept you as well.
